SUN CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD
ENCOURAGING THE SUCCESS OF FEMALE CINEMATOGRAPHY STUDENTS
TO APPLY
Applications are now closed for 2018/2019.
Step 1:
HAVE A PROJECT
This award is designed to support a cinematographer shooting an Advanced Project (graduate or undergraduate) at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This can include production thesis films, Stark projects, or any other project that qualifies as an advanced project, with the exception of projects that are funded by larger grants, such as Sloan or Coke, or projects that have a specific budget as part of the class requirements (e.g. 546 or 547).
Read all of the eligibility rules and requirements before starting, as this award is intended for a very specific type of recipient.
Please note that we reserve the right to make an exception to any or all requirements for a qualified candidate who will use the scholarship for development of her cinematography reel. Please consider applying if you are a female cinematography student who feels the award may advance your career, even if you are not shooting an advanced project.
Step 2:
FILL OUT ONLINE APPLICATION
Be prepared to spend time on the application form. You cannot edit it after submitting, and you will be asked a number of questions.
Before you begin, have the following on hand:
Contact information for a faculty reference.
Information about any advanced projects you have worked on while at USC.
A personal statement. This is your chance to familiarize us with you as a person and you as an artist. What makes you unique?
You will also be asked to answer two short open-ended questions.
Step 3:
SEND A DIGITAL COPY OF YOUR REEL
This reel should be a cinematography reel of footage shot as a cinematographer while at USC.
All footage for this reel must have been shot for official USC projects (including Coca Cola, Sloan, and class projects).
Footage shot for non-USC projects will not be considered.
Your reel must be received no later than the application deadline.
The reel should be submitted digitally to suncinematography@gmail.com or linked in the application form. Dropbox, Google Drive, YouTube, and Vimeo are all acceptable.
